Scenes from Ramadan Routine in Iran

Acts of worship and kindness gain momentum in Islam's holy month of Ramadan.

Muslims in Iran and across the world are currently observing the holy month of Ramadan, which sees a rise in the acts of worship and kindness.

During the month of mercy, Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to sunset. The act of fasting is aimed to remind people of the plight of the impoverished people.

When the call for Maghrib prayer rings out, scenes of the faithful breaking their fast at work are common. Iranians usually break their fast to simple “iftar” meals, mainly consisting of bread, cheese, dates, and vegetables.

In Ramadan, Muslims spend more time reading the Holy Quran.

The first verses of the Holy Quran were revealed to Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the holy month.

As the coronavirus pandemic changed the face of almost everything, the observation of Ramadan was no exception.

This year, some Quran reading sessions were held in outdoor spaces to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread.

Ramadan also sees the preparation and distribution of free hot meals among the needy people by charities and volunteers every day.

Among the charitable activities which are common in Iran and especially during Ramadan is offering free bread.

A remarkable number of bakeries across the Islamic Republic offer free bread in mid Ramadan on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Imam Hassan (AS), the second Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Muhammad [PBUH].
